The Harlem Renaissance was a emergent and flourishing artistic movement made of African- American painters, writers, musicians, and influencers in Harlem, New York during the 1920s and 1930s. With an influx of African- Americans migrating north, known as the Great Migration, for better living conditions it created a re-emergence of Black identity and consciousness of what it means to be of color during this time. Many artists showcased their culture through renditions of everyday life, social conditions, and spiritual awakening.
