Georges Seurat was a French painter during the post-Impressionist period, when people wanted to emphasize symbolism in art. Seurat also invented chromoluminarism and pointillism, two new painting techniques that involved using dots to make a larger picture. He is most known for his painting A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jette. The painting was revolutionary in its use of color and optical theory. It also began the Neo-Impressionist Movement. He died before completing his last work, The Circus.
