The Australian government forcibly removed thousands of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families and communities between 1905 and the 1970s in an effort to assimilate them. These children became known as the “Stolen Generations”. Although the end of the policy signaled a change in government interference with Aboriginal cultures, the effects of this mass involuntary separation are still felt by those impacted.
