South Africa held its first all-races election in 1994, at the end of Apartheid. The African National Congress won 62% of the vote. The elections led to the appointment of Nelson Mandela as the country’s first Black president and the establishment of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to hold officials responsible for human rights violations.
