Sabrie Akin founded the Labor World in Duluth, MN in 1896 and served as the first editor, publisher and only employee. Akin was a self described socialist and wanted her paper to fight for working men and women and labor unions. Labor World  was owned by Duluth AFL-CIO at one point and is still published today Labor World Newspaper, Inc..  ​
