During World War II, American’s were required to ration their purchase and use of a variety of items including sugar, oil, meat and other items. These items were needed for soldiers who were fighting in the war, or items that supply was impacted by the war due to shipping or production. The Federal Office of Price Administration was in charge of this, and monitored supply and demand to determine white items to ration. American’s felt it was their responsibility, and rationed to support the common good.
