Radium Girls was the nickname given to women hired by U.S. Radium Corporation to paint watch faces with paint that had radium in it. Many women became sick and even died from radium poisoning, but U.S. Radium and other companies that used radium-based paint denied claims that the paint caused the sickness. Grace Fryer, along with four other Radium Girls, sued the U.S. Radium Corporation for subjecting them to harmful chemicals. This case was important in defining and creating protections for workers rights.
