An American folk singer, prolific song- writer, social activist and banjo player that dedicated his talents to speak out about social injsutice during World War II, the Vietnam War and the Civil Rights Era. His activity during this time included singing at rallies and performing at fund-raising concerts after becoming famous for some of his early works in radio, focusing on communist, progressive, and environmental issues during the 1950s. Some of his best known work include, "Where have all the flowers gone?", "Turn, Turn, Turn" and "We Shall Overcome."
