The Mexican Revolution began following the election of 1910 in which dictator Porfirio Diaz
rigged yet another election. While opposition to Diaz’s regime was widespread, it wasn’t until the beginning of the 20th century that Mexican elites opposed him as well. Eventually, Francisco Madero challenged him in the 1910 election. After Diaz’s victory, the conflict turned violent and began to involve the middle and lower classes who finally had an outlet for their dissatisfaction with the Mexican government. What followed was a decade of various overthrown leaders and attempts at forming a unifying government for Mexico that ultimately ended in significant political and cultural shifts in Mexico. |
