The United States declared war on Mexico on May 13, 1846. The war ended on May 26, 1846. Following the theme of Manifest Destiny, the
United States and President Polk decided that Texas, California, Oregon and other Mexican territories needed democracy and therefore started the war efforts to “free” these states. Mexico was very weak at this point in time because not everyone was agreeing with their new constitution and president. As a result, many people were rebelling against the new president and all military forces were weak, which made it easier for the US to attack and win. |
