Jesse Owens was an Olympic athlete most famous for his showing at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, where he won four gold medals in track and field. During an already tense Olympics in Hitler-ruled Germany, Owens success brought awareness to the racial divisions of the time and also proved that skin color did not dictate a person's athletic ability.
