In 1894, two small fires south of Hinckley picked up speed and was blown into the town destroying it. When the fire had ended, 418 people had died and hundreds of thousands of land was destroyed. The booming logging business that was there because of the railroad ended after the fire. While the town did eventually rebuild, the logging business that made the town famous was destroyed after the fire.
