Henry VIII was a controversial King of England in the mid-1500's. Traditionally, England had been a Catholic country, with strong papal support. But when Henry VIII wanted to divorce his first wife and marry Anne Boleyn, the pope wouldn't approve. Henry VIII took drastic methods and broke England from Catholicism and started the Church of England, catapulting England into decades of religious turmoil.
