Tom McCall served as Oregon’s 30th governor and played a large role in shaping the future of the state. He was known for his fierce support for the environment and for its preservation and public access to it, as shown through 1967’s Oregon Beach Bill (HB1601) which established all 363 miles of Oregon’s coast as public land. He is most famous for helping pass Senate Bill 100. This landmark bill created statewide guidelines for how cities develop and how land can be used, which has helped preserve the ecosystem and natural resources of Oregon.
