Galileo was a physicist and astronomer during the 1500-1600s. He used his skills to build a telescope and became the first person to look at the moon through a telescope. He also used his telescope to study Jupiter’s moons and the sunspots on the sun. Galileo's observations supported Copernicus theory that the Earth and all other planets revolve around the sun. This was called the heliocentric model. Galileo published a work in which he supported the heliocentric model called, Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems. Galileo was sent to life imprisonment for opposing views of the Catholic Church.
