Fidel Castro was the communist revolutionary leader of Cuba from 1959-1976 and president from 1976 to 2018. Castro transformed Cuba into a one-party-communist state that carried out socialist policies all throughout the country. Castro was extremely anti-imperialist and along with his brother, Raul Castro, and Che Guevara overthrew the president of Cuba in 1959 and took over Cuba.
