Dolores Huerta co-founded the United Farm Workers of America union with Cesar Chavez in 1962. Her work as an activist started at a young age, being aware of injustices from her own treatment in school, and watching those in her community. Huerta was an organizer in the 1965 Delano Grape Workers Strike, she worked to gain safe work environments and contracts for many groups of people. Her work extended to the California state level where she helped to pass the Labor Relations Act in 1975. She has continued to work for the rights of women, Latinos, and for safe working conditions. Huerta has received many awards for her work, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2012.
