The Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibited discrimination based on race, religion, and gender among others. Furthermore, it attempted to end segregation based on discrimination in the public sphere. Finally, it also attempted to end voter registration practices that made it difficult or impossible for some to vote due to that same discrimination.
