A prominent leader during the Women's Suffrage Movement who worked towards giving the women the right to vote. After many years of protesting, hunger strikes, and luncheons with lawmakers, and eventually imprisonment for her radical demonstrations, she successfully was a central figure and face of the National Women's party and the passage of the 19th Amendment. She also was the the organizer of the 'Silent Sentinels' and author of the Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution that would grant women equal protection under legislation.
