The Mesabi Iron Range Strike of 1916 lasted from June 2nd, 1916 until September 17th, 1916. Some of the demands of miners included an eight hour work day and to have a stable wage instead of being paid by the amount of ore being dug up. The strike was organized under a union known as the Industrial Workers of the World who also organized different strikes. The companies would not agree to the demands, even after violence broke out. After many arrests and long turmoil, the strikers gave in. Although their demands were met, many companies eventually changed their policy for a better and more reasonable work environment.
