The Posse Comitatus was a self proclaimed Christian Patriot Movement that began in the 1970’s. Following in the wake of a wave of small farm foreclosures and anti-tax movement they attempted to turn West coast and Midwest farmers against the banks and central federal government. It was led by William Potter Gale, using anti-farmer conspiracy theories as well as a range of anti-Semite and racist ideology to turn people towards his cause. Essentially disbanding after the death of William Potter Gale, the members of the Posse Comitatus transitioned into more politically centered movements, yet their ideology did not change just morphed to conform with other less radical groups.
