James Meredith is a civil rights activist and writer. James Meredith left his mark in the civil rights movement by becoming the first African American to attend the University of Mississippi in 1962. Originally Meredith was accepted but when the admission’s office found out that he was an African American man, his acceptance was revoked. Meredith filed a lawsuit and his suit went all the way to the Supreme Court, where they ruled in his favor.
