Ida Tarbell (1857-1944) was a teacher, author, and journalist. She is considered one of the leading muckrakers of the progressive era and a pioneer of investigative journalism. Several of her works include a 20-part series on President Abraham Lincoln and a collection of articles on the Standard Oil Company (SOC), which eventually led to the breakup of the SOC’s monopoly.
