Harriet Bishop held many different roles in her life; she was a teacher, who first started teaching in Minnesota in 1847, in a one room schoolhouse with 9 students who spoke 5 languages. She was an author who wrote about events in Minnesota and her life there. She was a suffragist, and a temperance activist working with many different organizations. She also was involved in starting the First Baptist Church of St. Paul.
