The Servicemen’s Readjustment Act, also known as the GI Bill, was created by FDR in 1944. Specifically for returning war veterans, the bill was created to ease veterans back into American life. It not only provided veterans educational and home ownership benefits (like loans for college, to purchase a house, and starting a business), but also aimed to prevent post-war recession. However, the GI Bill was very discriminatory, making it difficult for veterans who were women and people of color to receive any of the benefits it granted to white, male veterans.
