Gertrude Bell was an archaeologist, mountaineer, translator, politician, spy, and writer from the late 1800s to the early 20th century. Bell was the first to translate the works of 16th Persian poet Hiraz, the only female officer in the Middle East in WWI, and one of the founders of the country of Iraq. She created what would become the Iraqi National Museum, and served as an aid to King Faisal and Sir Percy Cox. She is considered the true founder of the country by many, and is held in high esteem by the people of the country, despite her affiliation with English Imperialism.
