The Troubles are a three decade long conflict that took place in Northern Ireland, where Irish nationalists, who wanted Northern Ireland to become part of the Republic of Ireland, clashed with unionists who wanted Ireland to remain part of the United Kingdom. On January 30, 1972, known as Bloody Sunday, British troops opened fired on a peaceful march, wounding 13 and killing 13 unarmed men. This is one of the most significant events to take place during The Troubles, and it increased support of Irish nationalists and hostility towards Britain.
