Albert Einstein was a physicist throughout the 20th century, receiving the Nobel Peace Prize for his research. Einstein became a U.S. citizen after Hitler rose to power and he felt he could not return to home their because of his Jewish background. With the outbreak of WWII, Einstein contacted President Franklin Delano Roosevelt about nuclear weapon development in Germany, leading to the expansion of U.S. research on the topic, later known as the Manhattan Project, a decision he later regretted.
